Politically Exhausted

I am emotional exhausted from politics in the United States of America. I have a B.A. in Political Science and politics has up until now offered intellectual intrigue. But all of my intrigue has turned to disgust. I do not understand what call politicians are answering in their service. I see many power hungry ideologues. I see a lot of social media influencer behavior and I am appalled at the misguided link between extreme religious views and governing. I have little patience with laws enacted to appease religious leaders. US legislation should be moral, but not aligned to any particular religious institution. Have these legislators never read the Federalist Papers? Are they unaware what real freedom is about? We have somehow allowed the voices of freedom to be drowned out by the voices of the extreme and the false narratives filled vitriolic claims.

We have stopped using our best practices of finding compromise. I blame zero tolerance programs. An entire generation of children have grown up with institutionalized zero tolerance as a form of discipline. Zero tolerance equals zero thought, zero investigation and zero negotiation. You see there isn’t room to discuss what is best and how we can comprise. Real freedom allows for me to think, reflect and take in new ideas as well as seek solutions to economic and social problems.

I, also blame news journalist for their short sighted questions of extremist. One of the most recent questions that is asked daily, “Will you accept the election results?” The politicians rarely answer with a yes or no. The answer is usually along the lines of, “It will depend,” and some add on the facade, “of poor election integrity.” Now I think the follow-up question should be, “Do you have evidence that this next election is going to be comprised?” As an investigative journalist ask for sources, evidence, and anything that will reveal the safety of elections. Ask a Congressional Representative about how the elections are handled in their state. Ask if their own election was compromised. Start interviewing the many commissioners of elections about the safety of the protocols in each voting district. Let’s get our noses in the details.

The system of investigation is undermined by playing to the acceptance of faulty protocols. Yelling fire in a theater is unacceptable, unless there is a fire. Saying one will have to see if the election was fair, is the same. Show us the fire in the protocols. Start asking on the record what information they have that isn’t a vague talking point. Get evidence or continue to reveal the lack of evidence. Start calling out journalist that are not adhering to journalistic ethics. I expect both a free and fair election and I expect the legislators as well as the courts to support in both the federal and state governments that proper protocols are followed. There should never be unfounded and false claims of election fraud in the United States. If you claim it, prove it. Stop exhausting the public with false claims.

Well said, Ritamay! You have a gift at expressing what we all feel. Your insight on zero tolerance is dead on and something I did not equate with zero thought, investigation and negotiation.
